By becoming a member of YMA, you are first and foremost showing your support for the youth content industry and its talents. You will also enjoy many services and benefits, such as special rates to enter your programming in the race to win an Award of Excellence; discounts on our workshops and conferences; access to a network of contacts in the industry; and voting rights at the annual general meeting. By becoming a YMA member, you consent to respect and to adhere to the Statement of Quality

The provisions outlined below are in accordance with the new Membership Policy and will apply effective July 1, 2026.

MEMBERSHIP PERIOD

Your annual membership follows one of two periods:

January to December, or
July to June.

A person may become a member of a given period one month before the expiry date, e.g. December 1st for the January-December period, or June 1st for the July-June period.

If a person joins at any time during a given period, the expiry date will be the expiry date of the period, not the anniversary date of joining. For example, if you register in March, the period will run from January to December and the expiry date will be December 31; if you register in September, the expiry date will be June 30.

A Broadcaster or Streamer is an organization that broadcasts or streams children’s or youth content by any medium, including but not limited to television networks, radio, and digital platforms.

Membership applies to the corporate entity, not individuals, employees, agents or directors
The parent company membership covers all subsidiaries.
Must be a legally constituted organization (Canadian or international).

A Company is a legally constituted entity that creates or produces children’s or youth content (including studios and production teams).

Membership applies to the entity, not individuals, employees, agents or directors
The parent company membership covers all subsidiaries.
Must be a legally constituted organization (Canadian or international).

An Individual Member is a professional actively working in any aspect of children’s or youth content creation.

Individuals are not corporations.
If you are a legally constituted organization (Canadian or international), you must be a Company member not individual member.

A Student Member is an individual currently enrolled in a recognized program related to children’s or youth content creation.

Proof of enrollment required.

A Delegate is an employee of a broadcaster or company that already holds a YMA membership.

Must use the same corporate domain as the parent organization.

An International Affiliate is an individual professional residing outside Canada.

No eligibility for financial programs (e.g., scholarships)

No voting rights

Dues : $35

* Per membership period, in Canadian currency, add 5% administration fee
* Membership fees are non-refundable under any circumstances, as they serve as a contribution to a nonprofit organization.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL.....

Your membership contributes to the YMA's following activities in advocating and promoting excellence in children & youth media productions. Here is an overview of YMA’s activities:

CRTC representations and other government initiales or consultations
Awards of Excellence call for entries (discounted rate for members)
Awards of Excellence Gala alternating yearly in Toronto and in Montreal
Scholarships awarded for a total of approximately $30,000 to emerging talents from various communities, e.g. aboriginal, LGBTQ2+: Andra Sheffer, Steven DeNure and in the past Thérèse Pinho, John Rooney and Diversity, equity and inclusion.
The annual conference, a presentation of industry news by guest speakers.
Prix Jeunesse: viewing of youth prizes won at the Prix Jeunesse in Munich.
An array of activities: networking and team-building activity open to members such as Town-Hall Forums, A Toast to Youth, etc
