2026 Awards of Excellence Winners

Montréal, May 26, 2026 – The Youth Media Alliance (YMA) unveiled the winners of the 2026 Awards of Excellence during a gala held in Montréal at the Cinéma du Musée – Maxwell-Cummings Auditorium, Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. The event was written and hosted by the heartfelt and hilarious Simon Boulerice. YMA celebrates the very best in Canadian media productions for children and teens. A total of 17 awards and 1 tribute honour were presented during the evening.

Youth Media Alliance also paid tribute to Luc Châtelain, a leading figure in Québec’s media entrepreneurship landscape. YMA highlighted this exceptional moment of passing the torch from one generation to the next — a rare entrepreneurial story within the industry.

Through his work at Écho Média, he helped redefine the role of the producer by developing youth universes and brands capable of reaching international audiences across multiple platforms. A visionary and pioneer, he contributed to establishing Québec youth content as a creative and strategic sector with strong future potential. By passing on Écho Média to his daughter Sarah today, he is ensuring this vision continues across generations, reaffirming his confidence in emerging talent and in the future of youth media.

Recognition of indigenous narrative sovereignty

When in Toronto: We, the YMA, acknowledge the land we work on is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit and the Williams Treaty signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.

When in Montreal: We, the YMA, acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional and unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) Nation, who have long served as the custodians of these lands and waters. Tiohtià:ke (Montreal) has historically been a place of meeting and exchange among many First Nations and continues to be home to a diverse Indigenous community.

The YMA joins organizations across Canada’s screen industry to say: this is what we stand for and commit to:

4. Reconciliation – Taking real steps to work with and support Indigenous storytellers.

Mitigating the Environmental Impact of Events

The YMA helps mitigate the environmental impact of all its activities by adopting sustainable practices throughout the event. This includes choosing venues with strong green policies, reducing printed materials by prioritizing digital programs, and encouraging participants to use reusable water bottles and coffee cups. Offering plant-based and locally sourced menu options, minimizing single-use plastics, and ensuring effective waste sorting and recycling on-site are also important steps. Finally, the YMA promotes low-carbon travel by encouraging public transit, carpooling, or virtual participation options where possible, ensuring the conference remains both impactful and environmentally responsible.
