ANDRA SHEFFER SCHOLARSHIP
Youth Media Alliance (YMA) is looking for a promising entrepreneurial Canadian student at the university or college level who shows talent and passion for creating innovative children’s content. One outstanding Canadian student planning to pursue a career in children’s, television (animation or live action) or digital media production will be selected to receive the YMA Andra Sheffer Scholarship. The award enables the recipient to attend the Kidscreen Summit in San Diego and Banff World Media Festival in Alberta, as well as access mentorship resources throughout the year, and is intended to provide students with their first professional development opportunities and contacts.
The scholarship includes $4,000CAD in cash to cover travel costs, one Kidscreen Summit conference registration (valued at approximately $1,995USD) and one Banff World Media Festival registration (valued at approximately $1,995CAD). The total value is approximately $9,000CAD, cash and in-kind. Mentorship, provided to ensure the recipients benefit fully from the events, will be offered by YMA staff, Board of Directors members and children’s industry stakeholders and may include the following: help with choosing the most appropriate sessions, event orientation, personal introductions to industry members, attendance of networking meetings and, as appropriate, a review of the student’s pitch documents.
The Kidscreen Summit, the children’s entertainment industry’s most important annual conference, will be held from Feb. 9 au 12 2025 in San Diego CA USA..
The Banff World Media Festival provides delegates with the opportunity to meet global leaders and celebrate the world’s best content and talent. It is held in Banff, Alberta.
Both conferences include workshops, keynotes, presentations and panels exploring trends, innovations, critical issues and business solutions for the industry. The award recipient will have complete access to all events along with networking opportunities under the guidance of an Alliance member.

Elizabeth Nunan is actively researching and living in the world of children’s entertainment. She was selected by our jury for the quality of her project currently in development and her strong motivation to a career in the children’s media industry. She's a new student from Centennial College’s Children’s Media Program in Toronto and is completing an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences – Specializing in Psychology at University of Ottawa.
Anthony Suen is a young professional with interests in the interactive and multi-platform industry. He was selected by a jury of YMA members for the quality of his project currently in development and his deep commitment to a career in the children’s media industry.
