Montreal, May 14, 2025 - The Youth Media Alliance (YMA) is pleased to highlight the recent appointments of two prominent political figures to key roles within the Government of Canada, both of whom will have a meaningful impact on the cultural and youth sectors.

Steven Guilbeault has been named Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, as well as Minister responsible for Official Languages. This new portfolio underscores the central role of arts, culture, and linguistic diversity in shaping Canada’s national identity. A longtime advocate for the environment and cultural affairs, Minister Guilbeault brings a deep understanding of the creative sector and its place in our society.

We also extend our congratulations to Anna M. Gainey, Member of Parliament for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce–Westmount, who has been appointed Secretary of State for Children and Youth. Her new role reflects a growing federal commitment to prioritizing the needs, development, and well-being of young people. As the MP for our neighbouring riding, Ms. Gainey is well-positioned to support initiatives that amplify the voices of youth and promote high-quality youth media in Canada.

YMA looks forward to collaborating with both leaders in support of strong, inclusive public policies that empower youth and celebrate Canadian culture in all its forms.
