Montreal, QC – December 5, 2025 – The Youth Media Alliance (YMA) applauds the announcement by Agnes Augustin, CEO of the Shaw Rocket Fund(SRF) that the SRF is taking on a major new white paper led by children’s media researcher and industry veteran Kim Wilson, examining how Canada can sustain high-quality children’s content at a time when traditional funding models are collapsing, and digital platforms are reshaping the media landscape.

This research initiative arrives at a pivotal moment for the sector. With the closure of major channels, shrinking broadcaster revenues, and the rise of global streaming platforms operating under new regulatory frameworks, Canada’s children’s media ecosystem faces unprecedented disruption.

The white paper, undertaken through OneFish TwoFish Consulting by Kim Wilson, will provide evidence-based policy recommendations and sector-wide insights to help Canadian creators, regulators, educators, and families navigate this changing environment. It comes at a time when we need answers to critical questions:

YMA celebrates this leadership move by Shaw Rocket Fund and the choice of Kim Wilson to spearhead such an ambitious and urgently needed project.

“We applaud this initiative — a timely and essential step for our sector,” said Athena Georgaklis, YMA Co-President. “Congratulations to Agnes Augustin for championing this, and no one is better placed to lead it than Kim Wilson. Her knowledge, experience, and dedication to young audiences make her the ideal guide for Canadian children’s media through this pivotal moment. We look forward to the conversations this research will spark across the country.”

“The YMA intends to participate in consultations examining regulatory frameworks, production economics, child development, and cultural representation.  The Rocket Fund's Whitepaper is timely and essential, says Maria Kennedy, YMA Co-president.  "It will help guide future policy development, production strategies, and cross-sector collaboration”

As in previous initiatives over the years, the YMA will support the advocacy work the Shaw Rocket Fund is doing to protect Children’s Content in Canada.   We will continue to participate in consultations to contribute expertise on regulatory frameworks, production economics, child development, and cultural representation.
